Children Treatments

The first consultation

The teeth and jaw malpositions can have not only aesthetic consequences, but also serious functional effects. Fortunately, not all children need dental appliances. A consultation with a dentofacial orthodontic specialist (or pediatric dentist) will determine exactly whether and when a child needs treatment.

The first consultation
  • Consultation at 3 to 4 years old (milk teeth)
  • Consultation at age 8 (beginning of mixed dentition)
  • Consultation at 12 years (end of mixed dentition)
If there is a bad tooth or jaw position, the orthodontist will decide the best time to start the treatment depending on the severity of the situation. Overview: common malpositions When to start treatment? As a rule, treatment begins between 7 and 12 years of age. In case of severe growth disorders, such as a very long mandible, an inverted occlusion, or an occlusal bite, treatment may have to start very early on the baby teeth (between 4 and 7 years) to ensure the most success. The close collaboration of the pediatric dentist and the orthodontist is decisive in order to avoid serious consequences.

In principle, there are fixed dental appliances for removable dental appliances in children.
